About this activity

The palace of the Tau was the residence of the archbishops of the city.

It owes its name to its plan, in the form of "T" (tau in Greek). The designation of the palace is attested from 1131.

In tribute to the baptism of Clovis by Saint Remi in Reims, in 496, the custom is established and the kings of France are sacred.

The palace, already existing at the time of the ancient city of Reims, is modified several times. Indeed, the palace knows several stages of transformation until becoming a classical palace between 1671 and 1710, under the direction of Jules Hardouin Mansart, illustrious and first architect of King Louis XIV.

You can now visit the Tau Palace freely and cheaply through GoTourism.
